GOP Wants House Hopeful to Withdraw

Greene County Republican leaders are asking a Republican candidate for the Missouri House, Jerry M. Riley, to withdraw after learning about an order of protection and a criminal conviction against him. In an unusual move, some Greene County Republicans have endorsed B.J. Marsh, a Republican who filed for the office Wednesday. “We simply don’t endorse anyone in a primary situation, but in this instance we are united in supporting B.J. Marsh,” said Timothy Trower, the party’s legislation chairman for the 136th District.

By a narrow margin, the Senate resisted the temptation to shrink the Missouri House and increase its own ranks. A constitutional amendment sponsored by Sen. Ed Quick, D-Liberty, would have asked voters to drop the number of House members from 163 to 105 while increasing the size of the 34-member Senate by one. It was defeated 17-12 Tuesday.

Mildred 'Millie' Limbaugh, the mother of talk-show host Rush Limbaugh, died Thursday at her home. She was 74. Limbaugh was the matriarch of the prominent Cape Girardeau Limbaugh family. She was the wife of attorney Rush H. Limbaugh Jr., who died in 1990. She is survived by two sons, Rush Limbaugh III and David Scott Limbaugh.
